Valve Automation

Engineered Actuation
For Customer-Supplied Valves

E4 Industrial engineers, assembles, and tests actuated valve packages on customer-furnished valves for the midstream, downstream, chemical, and energy sectors β€” properly sized, fully tested, and built to perform in service. Not catalog components bolted together. Engineered automation, owned end to end.

Valve actuation β€” pneumatic, electric, and hydraulic actuators on quarter-turn and multi-turn valves

Automation Is Where Valves Succeed or Fail

Valve automation failures are rarely caused by the actuator alone. They come from poor coordination between the valve, the actuation method, the accessories, and the operating conditions β€” an undersized actuator, a mismatched mounting kit, the wrong fail position, an air supply that can't deliver, a positioner that was never bench-set.

E4 treats valve automation as a complete mechanical and functional scope, not a parts list. We size to real torque and thrust demand with proper safety factors, build to the correct mounting standard, integrate the controls and feedback, and prove the assembly on a bench before it ever reaches the field.

Valves are supplied by the customer. E4 owns the automation execution β€” engineering, assembly, testing, and documentation β€” and delivers an assembly that is ready to install and ready to run.

What We Automate

Quarter-Turn & Multi-Turn Β· Customer-Furnished Valves

E4 automates the valve you supply β€” new, or an existing manual valve being brought under control. We work across both motion types and every common valve style in industrial process service.

Quarter-Turn Valves

90Β° On/Off & Modulating

Ball, butterfly, and plug valves β€” the workhorses of isolation and control. Automated with rack-and-pinion or scotch-yoke actuators sized to seating and dynamic torque.

  • Ball valves β€” floating and trunnion
  • Butterfly valves β€” resilient and high-performance
  • Plug valves β€” lubricated and sleeved

Multi-Turn Valves

Rising Stem & Rotary Multi-Turn

Gate, globe, and control valves requiring linear thrust or multi-turn drive. Automated with electric multi-turn actuators or linear actuation matched to stem load.

  • Gate valves β€” isolation and on/off
  • Globe valves β€” throttling and control
  • Control valves β€” modulating service

Service Scope

New, Retrofit & Upgrade

Automation is provided for new installations and for existing infrastructure being modernized.

  • New valve automation packages
  • Retrofit of existing manual valves
  • Replacement or upgrade of existing actuators
  • Standardization across a plant's installed base

Actuation Technologies

The Right Drive For The Duty β€” Not The Catalog Default

E4 selects the actuation method against required torque or thrust, duty cycle, fail-safe requirements, and service environment. We are not locked into one technology β€” we specify what the application needs. See our valve actuation overview for the engineering fundamentals.

Pneumatic

Fast, Fail-Safe, Proven

Spring-return and double-acting actuators for on/off and modulating service. Fast stroke, clean fail-safe behavior, and the default for most quarter-turn duty.

Electric

Precise, Low-Maintenance

On/off and modulating electric actuators for utility and process duty where air isn't available and precise positioning or diagnostics matter.

Hydraulic

High Torque, Severe Service

For high torque or thrust, severe service, remote installations, and emergency shutdown duties where hydraulic power density is required.

Electro-Hydraulic

Self-Contained ESD & Control

Self-contained electro-hydraulic actuators combining electric supply with hydraulic force β€” for pipeline ESD, partial-stroke testing, and remote critical valves.

Selection discipline

Actuator selection is driven by required torque or thrust with the correct safety factor, duty cycle, fail-safe mode, and the service and area classification β€” not by what's fastest to quote. Undersizing is the most common cause of automation failure in the field, and it's the first thing we engineer out.

Brand-Agnostic Actuator Integration

We Build To The Platform Your Spec Calls For

E4 is not tied to a single actuator manufacturer. We build to the platform your specification, your plant standard, or your existing installed base requires β€” and our team integrates the industry's leading actuator lines across pneumatic, electric, hydraulic, and electro-hydraulic technologies. If your spec names a brand, we build to it. If it doesn't, we recommend the right one and tell you why.

Flowserve

Limitorque electric and quarter-turn actuation platforms integrated to project specification.

Emerson

Bettis and Hytork pneumatic and electric actuators mounted, configured, and tested to duty.

Rotork & AUMA

Electric multi-turn and quarter-turn platforms integrated where the plant standard calls for them.

Controls & Accessories

Solenoids, positioners, limit switches, and network cards from the manufacturers your control philosophy requires.

Authorized Lines β€” Expanding

E4 is actively building authorized actuator and valve partnerships with the industry's leading manufacturers. As agreements come online, our partner lines will be listed here. For current availability on a specific brand, contact our sales desk.

Our Valve Automation Services

A Complete, Owned Scope β€” Not A Box Of Parts

Actuator Engineering & Selection

Torque and thrust analysis, safety-factor alignment to service conditions, fail-safe and emergency operation, technology selection across pneumatic, electric, and hydraulic.

Mounting & Mechanical Integration

ISO 5211 and NAMUR-compliant mounting, custom brackets and couplings, alignment verification, and fit-up inspection.

Controls & Feedback

Solenoid valves and air preparation, positioners and feedback devices, limit and proximity switches, manual overrides, and local indication.

Assembly & Configuration

In-house actuator mounting, component verification before assembly, and configuration checks against the specification.

Factory Acceptance Testing

Open/close cycle verification, fail-safe operation testing, feedback and signaling validation, with documented results.

Documentation Package

Assembly drawings, component datasheets, FAT reports, IOM references, and tagging and traceability support.

Mounting is built to recognized interface standards β€” ISO 5211 for quarter-turn and NAMUR for accessory interface β€” so assemblies are serviceable and interchangeable in the field, not one-off builds.

Why Automation Belongs With E4

We Engineer, Not Assemble

Every package starts with a torque or thrust calculation and a safety factor β€” not a catalog lookup.

Brand-Agnostic

We build to your specified actuator platform. No forcing the line that's easiest for us to ship.

Tested Before It Ships

Every assembly is functionally tested and documented. Nothing leaves the bench unproven.

Complete Mechanical Scope

Actuator, mounting, controls, feedback, and testing β€” coordinated as one deliverable.

Direct Engineer Accountability

One point of contact who owns the automation from sizing through delivery.

Field-Ready Documentation

Drawings, datasheets, FAT reports, and tagging that hold up to inspection and turnover.

Typical Applications

Process & Energy Sector Duty

Process Isolation & Control

On/off and modulating automation for process lines, manifolds, and unit isolation across refining, chemical, and gas processing.

Emergency Shutdown (ESD)

Fail-safe actuated valves for safety-related duty, with partial-stroke-capable platforms where the safety philosophy requires it.

Pump & Compressor Stations

Station isolation, recycle, and control valve automation for midstream and terminal facilities.

Skid & Package Equipment

Actuated valve packages for OEMs, fabricators, and skid builders β€” delivered tested and ready to integrate.

Turnaround & Retrofit

Retrofit automation of existing manual valves and actuator replacements during turnarounds and upgrades.

Standardization Programs

Consolidating a plant's mixed actuator base to a common platform for spares, training, and reliability.

Scope Clarification

  • Valves are customer-furnished. E4 provides the automation β€” actuators, mounting, controls, feedback, assembly, and testing β€” on valves you supply.
  • E4 delivers valve-level automation hardware, mechanical integration, and functional testing. Assemblies are delivered ready for installation.
  • PLC/DCS programming, control panels, and instrumentation engineering are provided by others and coordinated with E4's scope as required.
